The Law of Polarity Fallacy 
Why Good and Evil in particular do not form a Polarity
Can this really be meant seriously, not to see such an obvious pair of opposites as Good and Evil as a polarity that belongs together? Yes, it is meant seriously and will also be explained plausibly! When we see something regularly, we quickly come to the conclusion that this something is an inevitable part of life and cannot be changed – that, for example, good and evil are inseparable and one cannot exist without the other. In our chaotic world, we simply cannot imagine that evil could ever be eliminated in any way – and so some esoteric circles have hastily postulated a supposed Law that compares apples with oranges, contains some significant errors in reasoning, does not correspond to reality and therefore causes great confusion and damage: the so-called ‘Law of Polarity’!
According to the saying, ‘Where there is much light, there is also much shadow,’ it is assumed here that good as such only becomes visible, tangible and experiential in contrast to evil, and that consequently the polarity of ‘good and evil’ is mutually dependent. Natural phenomena such as day and night, i.e. light and darkness, are also drawn into this supposed law for the sake of explanation.
In the interest of clarity, we must therefore separate the term ‘darkness’ into two different, very contrasting meanings:
- The naturally occurring darkness, which results primarily from the alternation of day and night or the often very beneficial shadows cast by trees, buildings, rock formations or caves, is helpful and good.
- The man-made darkness that results from all kinds of harmful actions by almost all human beings and, as a consequence of the Law of Spiritual Gravity, surrounds our spirit as karma and dark dross, cutting it off and therefore promoting harm and suffering in our actions, is superfluous, depressing and destructive.
Therefore, this 'Law of Polarity' is not logical and does not correspond to the facts! For example, the change from day to night follows the Law of Balance, which, among many other things, brings about the necessary alternation between activity and rest. Both are necessary and can therefore only be described as ‘good’, and it would be completely wrong to describe the day as 'good' because it is light and the night as ‘bad and evil’ because it is dark – a point that is certainly not difficult to understand and can easily be applied to other natural polarities.
Everything that can truly be called ‘evil’, such as envy, hatred, greed, irascibility and all other destructive actions that cause harm and suffering to fellow human beings, animals and the entire planet, actually has a completely different cause: the abuse of human Free Will that has been given to us! If we seriously consider the question of whether all this is necessary or superfluous, we will soon come to the conclusion that everything that pulls us down, all crimes and harmful actions have no right to exist in Creation and would gradually disappear completely with better intentions – to the joy and benefit of our entire environment! If, for example, every person made an effort to use their speech only in a constructive way, i.e. to formulate necessary criticisms lovingly and objectively rather than in a personally hurtful manner, this would be helpful and beneficial for everyone involved. It would be most beneficial for the person themselves, because it is through the responsible use of our language that we learn to recognise our own immaturity and the projection of our weaknesses onto other people! And it is only through recognition that we can avoid them!
Simply the sincere effort to fulfil the well-known saying: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" would melt away the supposedly inevitable opposite of good like a snowman in the sun – simply by putting ourselves in the shoes of our fellow human beings and helping to ensure that they are well. We ourselves immediately benefit from this in the form of a more harmonious atmosphere and relaxed coexistence! The cause of discord lies even deeper: we project!
From this perspective, the term ‘shadow integration,’ which is occasionally used, even picks up on an important grain of truth, albeit in a very euphemistic way; for it is not a harmless shadow, but a not harmless mistake – a big difference! Only when this term is used in the sense that we acknowledge our own mistakes to ourselves and begin to work through them can we speak of real ‘shadow integration’. For our greatest and most widespread weakness usually lies in denying our own shortcomings to ourselves and almost always projecting them onto an external enemy – or, in short: it is always others who are to blame for everything bad in the world! If we see through this disastrous mechanism and begin to look for weaknesses primarily in ourselves, then we have taken the most important step towards personal spiritual ascension and happiness!
However, if the malicious and destructive are presented as part of a Law, then it is only a convenient and powerless self-excuse, a trivialisation and a denial of human responsibility, since in this case it is presented as Natural Law and therefore God-given!
According to the conclusive explanations of the Grail Message, there is no darkness, no oppressive or harmful action in any of the higher planes of creation. The primordial sense of a paradise in which evil no longer exists has been deeply rooted in each of us since time immemorial! And that is why, logically, we can only ascend there once we have recognised these things as harmful and cast them off, even here on Earth!
Of course, on the other hand, we live in a world of numerous natural polarities which, as already mentioned above, are good and necessary. However, to formulate a Law from this which incorporates avoidable human misconduct is a serious error in thinking. Accordingly, the so-called ‘Law of Polarity’ of certain esoteric circles does not exist in the manner described there! It does not explain the emergence of good and evil and only prevents us from discarding our mistakes!
Doesn't this striking but often realistic representation clearly show
that we are fully responsible for our thoughts, words and actions,
both good and bad, and not merely the executing organ of a ‘Law of Polarity’?
If we turn inwardly only to what is helpful and constructive,
the darkness within us gradually fades and disappears completely.
The so-called ‘Law of Polarity’ is therefore an invention of esotericists
and a powerless self-excuse for having to work less on oneself.
So-called ‘positive thinking’ is not the way to achieve this, however;
rather, the serious will to do good must come from deep within us
and gradually become a genuine need.
